John Herbert
Executive General Manager
John joined Transfield in 1995 and is an Executive General Manager. He is responsible for providing technical and engineering advice on Transfield and Novatec projects, specifically Novatec’s 30MWe solar thermal power station project (PE2). John is a member of the PE2 Management Committee and the Technical Review Committee.
John has over 40 year’s experience in design, construction, commissioning, operation, project and contract management and development of major projects and businesses in Australia and Asia.
John has held a number of executive appointments at Transfield. This included leading project development for the Collinsville Power station and as Project Director for a number of power and energy development proposals before becoming responsible for Transfield's power station construction business in 1998 and subsequently for its Asian operations and part of the Australian construction business. This involved full responsibility for construction of projects with individual values in excess of $100 million.
Prior to joining Transfield John had a comprehensive career at a senior level in the Victorian power industry, including its restructuring and subsequent corporatisation of the generation sector. During his tenure with the State Electricity Commission in Victoria, when John was responsible for power plant design, he was its representative with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in USA, which included the monitoring and funding of research and commercial development of advanced power generation technologies, including wind and coal gasification.
John has a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) with Honours from the University of Melbourne and is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (Australia).
