Novatec Solar
Novatec has successfully designed and commissioned a Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) system based on Linear Fresnel technology. Transfield invested in 2007 and took Novatec from a start-up company to a commercial provider of solar thermal technology before introducing ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, as an investor in March 2011. ABB has a 35% interest in Novatec and Transfield remains the majority shareholder.
Key Achievements
- 2009 – Novatec’s Nova-1 product wins Industry Prize at the Hannover Fair
- 2009 – 1.4MWe demonstration plant connected to the national electricity grid in Murcia, Spain
- 2010 – Construction begins on a 30MWe plant (PE2) in the same location – world’s first utility-
scale CSP plant based on Linear Fresnel technology - 2010 – Wins contract to build a 9MWth coal fuel saver in Liddell, New South Wales
- 2011 – PE 2 debt facility finalised in February
- 2011 – Novatec generates superheated steam above 500°C in September
