Transfield developed and built the Brisbane Airport Rail Link (BARL), its second rail PFI following Sydney’s Airport Rail Link.
Brisbane Airtrain connects Brisbane Airport’s Domestic and International Terminals to Brisbane city, integrating seamlessly into Queensland Railway’s network at Eagle Junction.
In 1999 construction began on the spur line, which is elevated to 8.5m for most of its length. The Airtrain operates and maintains facilities at the international and domestic airport terminals, where island platforms have been designed for peak circulation of 1,600 passengers per hour.
The $220 million BOOT project was officially opened in May 2001.
